Over the years, DanceBlue has become a tradition on UK’s campus like no other. Every spring, students can look forward to the 24-hour dance marathon, where 1,000 students come together to stay up all night for the kids. In the fall, students and the greater Lexington/Kentucky communities can look forward to another DanceBlue tradition—our annual 5K! The 5K has quickly become a DB staple for many participants. Each year, students and community members of all ages come to Kroger Field to work up a sweat and have some fun FTK. Whether they are running, power walking, or taking a leisurely stroll, participating in the 5K is guaranteed to be a blast.
As the Operations Chair for DanceBlue 2020, I have the honor of helping plan the DanceBlue 5K. This year’s 5K will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at 2:00 pm. There is no better way to start off your Homecoming week than by attending this event! If you are itching to get involved with DanceBlue, or get a glimpse of what we do– this is your time.
I knew I wanted to participate in DanceBlue the moment I set foot on campus my freshman year. As a cancer survivor, I am always in awe of the amount of support our student body shows for this cause. It never fails to make me smile when I consider the compassion of UK students and our community. Everything we accomplish when we come together is truly incredible. As I approach my final year on Committee, I am looking forward to taking in every moment and enjoying every event. Every year, the 5K gets bigger and better—and I have no doubt that this year will be the same.
So lace up your running (or walking) shoes, and please join us October 6 at Kroger Field for the 2019 DanceBlue 5K! If you are a UK student, the 5K is worth 10 spirit points towards your DanceBlue team. In addition, t-shirts are available in limited quantities, so sign up now. Register at https://runsignup.com/Race/KY/Lexington/DanceBlue5K, and let’s get physical FTK!
