Preparing for the DanceBlue dance marathon can be overwhelming, especially for those who have not participated in the marathon before. As a result, we have polled Committee members to see what tips they have and items they pack to survive the marathon. We hope these tips help you have the best possible experience at the marathon!

TIPS:

  • Stay healthy before the marathon! Start taking EmergenC now!
  • Stretch, sleep, eat well, and rest BEFORE the marathon
  • Stay hydrated – drink SO MUCH WATER. For every drink you have with caffeine, drink two bottles of water!
  • Eat healthy snacks!
  • Even if you aren’t hungry, eat at least something (but not too much) during the meal hours
  • Reapply deodorant always
  • Switch between contacts and glasses for less sleepy/dry eyes
  • Brush your teeth to feel more awake
  • Don’t drink coffee when you wake up on Saturday or between midnight and 5
  • Stretch every couple of hours! Walk backward on the ramp in Memorial to stretch out your feet and calves!
  • Keep a good attitude and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing, especially during the most painful parts – check out the inspiration tent
  • Stay positive even when it gets hard! Be intentional about not complaining out loud!
  • Be present! Time goes by faster when you’re not checking your phone
  • Keep moving! Always do the activities (try to win the Morale Cup), dance with friends, and practice the line dance!
  • Invite all your friends to come watch and visit you! It’s so fun and encouraging to see people you know in the stands
  • Take it all in, look around at how incredibly awesome it is to be exactly where you are
